OUR OBJECTIVES

            At MEV Özel Izmir Izmir Primary School we offer a curriculum which enables
learners of English to acquire the necessary skills that are needed in order to communicate
fluently and coherently in their non – native tongue. Our program brings forth learners who
are refined and cultivated in the English language.
            Our curriculum holds the ideologies of the Common European Framework. The syllabus allows teachers and the learners to see and record their progress within the academic year. We also place great importance on learner autonomy and regular self – assessment. It allows the students to be more confident and independent. With regular self – assessments the learners are stimulated to reflect on their own progress and evaluate their strategies for improving their strengths and addressing their weaknesses. Moreover, these self – assessments provide the learner with the knowledge and the awareness that they need in order to become more adept in learning a second language. Our mission is to teach English in its entirety. As a result we have divided our syllabus into two programs which, when unified create the model foundation to learning a second language. Our ‘Main Course’ program gives priority to both accuracy and fluency in the development of the four skills, which are reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It’s fundamental to learn grammatical structures however, it isn’t sufficient enough to learn a language in its totality. Aside from the speaking topics that can be found in our course books, we have incorporated an additional ‘Speaking’ lesson into our ‘Main Course’ program. This lesson is solely dedicated to using and practicing the language learned and acquired from previous years. Through our course books students get the opportunity to learn about the vast variety of cultures in the world and their traditions. We encourage our students to see themselves as part of a diverse and multi – cultural society. In addition to the ‘Main Course’ program we offer and extensive reading course called ‘Skills’. The lessons of this program are based around famous stories and classic pieces of literature which provide quality language models, appeal to the imagination and stimulate creativity. Our ‘Skills’ program also fosters literary discussions and develops analytical and critical thinking skills which are crucial in today’s world. Both of these programs lay solid foundations for future language learning.
            We are attuned to the importance of mixed abilities and we value and appreciate the diversity and the individuality of our learners that is why the tenet of our syllabus is that each student is entitled to an education which caters to all levels of achievement. We believe that education is an on going process; a never ending journey. We instill our learners with confidence and knowledge that will continue to grow and flourish in the coming years of their intellectual pursuits.

AMAÇLAR

Milli Eğitim Vakfı Özel İzmir İlköğretim Okulunda öğrencilere, öğrendikleri yabancı dilde akıcı ve doğru iletişim kurmalarını sağlayacak becerileri kazandıran bir program sunmaktayız. Programımız bilgili, kültürlü ve seçkin öğrenciler yetiştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır.
Müfredat programımız Avrupa Dil Birliği (Common European Framework) esaslarına göre hazırlanmıştır. Öğrencilerin İngilizce dersinde yıl boyunca gösterdikleri gelişmeler her yönü ile yakından izlenip kayıt altına alınmaktadır. Çağdaş eğitimde öğrencilerin kendi gelişmelerini kontrol edip, kendi kendilerini değerlendirebilmeleri oldukça önemlidir. Bu onların bağımsız ve kendilerine güvenen öğrenciler olmalarını sağlamaktadır. Düzenli olarak uygulanan Kendini Değerlendirme Formları ile öğrenciler kendi gelişmeleriyle ilgili görüşlerini belirtmekte güçlü ve eksik yönlerinin farkına vararak daha çok gelişebilmenin yollarını keşfetmektedirler.
Sunulan İngilizce programı Temel İngilizce Dersi (Main Course) ve İngilizce Beceri (Skills) olmak üzere iki ayrı dersten oluşmuştur. Bu iki program birbirini her yönden mükemmel bir şekilde destekleyerek öğrencilerin öğrendikleri yabancı dili etkin bir şekilde kullanmasını sağlamaktadır. Temel İngilizce Dersi programı İngilizcenin akıcı ve doğru bir şekilde öğrenilip kullanılmasına ve aynı zamanda dinleme, konuşma, okuma ve yazma becerilerinin geliştirilmesini hedeflemektedir. Gramer yapılarını öğrenmek elbette ki önemlidir fakat yabancı dil öğreniminde tek hedef olamaz. Okutulan ders kitaplarında bulunan konuşma konularının yanı sıra Temel İngilizce Dersinin içinde uygulanan Konuşma Dersleri ile öğrencilerin akıcı konuşma, kendilerini toplum önünde ifade edebilme, tartışma yetenekleri geliştirilmektedir. Okutulan ders kitaplarının da yardımıyla öğrenciler diğer ülkelerdeki insanların kültürleri ve yaşam biçimleri ile ilgili bilgi edinmekte ve ufukları genişlemektedir. Biz öğrencilerimizin kendilerini çok kültürlü ve çok zengin bir dünyanın bir parçası olarak görmelerini hedeflemekteyiz.
İngilizce Beceri Dersleri öğrencilere yoğun bir okuma programı sunmaktadır. Bu derslerde okutulan kitaplar ünlü hikâyeler ve klasikler asarından seçilmekte, öğrencilere çok nitelikli İngilizce modeli oluşturmakta, öğrencilerin hayal güçlerini harekete geçirerek yaratıcılıklarını geliştirmektedir. İngilizce Beceri Dersleri aynı zamanda edebi tartışmalara da yer vererek öğrencileri analitik ve eleştirisel düşünmeye alıştırmaktadır. Her iki programımız da öğrencilerimizin gelecekteki İngilizce öğrenimleri için sağlam temeller oluşturmaktadır.
İngilizce öğretiminde öğrencilerimizin yetenek farklılıkları dikkate alınmaktadır. Farklı zekâ alanları ve farklı öğrenme biçimlerine sahip olan öğrencilerimizin kendi kapasiteleri ölçüsünde en üst noktada gelişmelerini sağlayabilecekleri bir ortam oluşturulmaktadır. Eğitim yaşam boyu devam eden ve hiç sona ermeyen bir süreçtir. ANA SINIFLARI İNGİLİZCE DERSİ TANITIMI
                                                                                                                                        

1. DERSİN AMACI:

 Ana Hazırlık sınıfında İngilizce dersinin amacı çocukları İngilizceyle tanıştırmak, sevdirmek, oyunlar, şarkılar, hikâyelerle öğrencileri aktif kılmak, belli başlı kavramları henüz yeni öğrenmekte oldukları ana dillerinin dışında diğer bir şekilde de söylenebildiğine alıştırmaktır. PREP GRADE MAIN COURSE DESCRIPTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION:          
In Prep grades English lessons the main objective is to make the students love English by introducing English through games, songs, stories and tongue-twisters.
The pronunciation of the students will be improved by listening to their course book cassettes regularly. Self-evaluation sheets will be given at the end of each term. The students will be given guidance on their weak points and how to improve them.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
1) Attend class on time.
2) Keep your class clean and neat.
3) Come to class ready; bring your books and stationery with you at all times.
4) Keep the classroom activities in a file and take them home regularly.
5) Listen regularly to your CDs.
6) Keep the classwork activities in a file.

1.SINIFLAR İNGİLİZCE DERSİ TANITIMI
Dersin Amacı: Birinci sınıfta asıl amaç öğrencilere İngilizceyi sevdirmek ve İngilizce dersini eğlenceli bir hale getirmektir. Bunun yanı sıra İngilizcedeki basit kalıpları öğretmek, okuduklarını anlamalarını ve basit kalıplarla öğrendiklerini kullanmalarını sağlamak; dinleme, okuma, yazma ve konuşmada özgüvenlerini ortaya çıkarmak ve aynı zamanda İngilizce öğrenimini şarkılar, hikâyeler, oyunlar ile öğrenciyi aktif kılmaktır.

2.SINIFLAR İNGİLİZCE DERSİ  TANITIMI

1. DERSİN AMACI:
     İkinci sınıf İngilizce derslerinde  esas amacımız  TPR (vücut dili)  kullanarak  ,tekerlemeler, şarkılar  yardımıyla ,karşılıklı ve paylaşımcı  grup çalışmalarıyla İngilizce’yi öğrencilerimize sevdirmek.Her  ünite  sonunda  öğrenciler tarafından hazırlanan projelerle öğrencilerimizin öğrendiklerini günlük yaşamlarına taşımaları ve rahatlıkla kullanmalarını sağlamaktır.Bu yıl  2. sınıf öğrencilerimiz için seçtiğimiz Backpack kitabı her ünite  için 20 değişik  aktivite içeren CD-ROM (Bilgisayar CD si)ile öğrencilerimize  hem öğrendiklerini  tekrar etme ,  hem de eğlenceli zaman geçirme fırsatı  sunacaktır.
      Öğrencilerimiz kendilerini değerlendirmeleri ve neyi ne kadar öğrendiklerinin farkına varabilmeleri için kitabımızda her ünite sonunda bulunan değerlendirme sayfalarını dolduracaklardır. Her 3 ünitede bir tekrar değerlendirme formları verilerek öğrencilerin kendi gelişimlerini takip etmeleri sağlanacaktır. Tüm bu çalışmaların yanı sıra her dönem sonu, daha geniş kapsamlı değerlendirme formlarıyla öğrencilerin İngilizce düzeyleri ve gelişimleri hem kendileri hem de öğretmenleri tarafından değerlendirilecektir. Bunun ardından yapılan bireysel görüşmelerle öğrencilerin yetersiz olduğu tespit edilen konularda rehberlik edilecektir. Bu yöntemle her öğrenci kendi kapasitesi doğrultusunda gelişimini en üst düzeyde sürdürecektir. Backpack 1 kitabımızın CR-ROM ile sınıfta işlenen konular evde bilgisayarda oyun şeklindeki aktivitelerle  tekrar edilecek gerektiğinde çıktıları istenip kontrol edilecektir Öğrencilerimizin telaffuzları okuma kitaplarının CD lerini düzenli olarak dinlemesinin takibiyle en doğru şekilde geliştirilecektir.

2nd GRADE MAIN COURSE DESCRIPTION

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In second grade English lessons, our main objective is to make the students love English by using TPR (Total Physical Response), tongue-twisters, songs, group work and pair work. At the end of each unit, we aim to make students put into practice what they have learnt through project work. Students will improve their pronunciation by listening to the Readers’ CDs or by using the CD Rom regularly. Flash cards and posters will be used to reinforce the structures taught.  Students will evaluate themselves by filling in the self-assessment sheets after each unit. The students will be given self-evaluation sheets every three units, so they will be able to check their own progress. In addition to this, End-of-Term evaluation sheet will be given once a term student’s progress will thereby be checked both by themselves and by their teachers. At individual meetings, the students will be given guidance and advice on how to improve their weak areas.

2. CLASS   EXPECTATIONS:

1- Attend class on time.
2- Come to class ready, bring your books, handouts, notebook and stationary with you all the time.
3- Respect yourself, your classmates and your teacher.
4- Keep the class clean and tidy.
5- Do the projects and homework on your own, on time.

3.SINIFLAR İNGİLİZCE DERSİ TANITIMI

1. DERSİN AMACI:
İngilizce dersinin amacı; okuma, yazma, dinleme ve konuşma becerilerini kullanarak şarkılar, sözcük oyunları, canlandırma ve projeler aracılığıyla İngilizceyi öğrenmelerini sağlamaktır.
            Backpack 2 ve Backpack 3 kitaplarını takip eden öğrenciler, CD’leri dinleyerek ve CD Rom’u kullanarak telaffuzlarını geliştirmekte, flash cards ve posterlerle görsel olarak konuları pekiştirmekte, projelerle yaratıcı düşüncelerini ortaya çıkarmakta, her ünite sonunda öğrendikleri kalıplarla kendilerini ifade edebilmektedirler.
            Avrupa Dil Birliği esaslarına göre öğrenciler kendi gelişimlerini gözlemleyip eksiklerinin farkına varmak için değerlendirme formları dolduracaklardır. Ayrıca her dönem İngilizce öğretmenleri ile yapılan bireysel görüşmeler doğrultusunda öğrenciler bilinçlendirilecek ve çalışmaları yönlendirilecektir.

3rd GRADE MAIN COURSE DESCRIPTION

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will learn English through the use of projects, vocabulary games, role play and songs. They will improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will improve their pronunciation by listening to the course book CD or by using the CD Rom. Flash cards and posters will be used to reinforce the structures taught. The students will complete projects, which will allow them to express their creativity.
In accordance with the Common European Framework, students will complete self-assessment forms. In this way, they will become more aware of their own strengths and weaknesses. Once a term, each student will receive individual guidance from the teacher in order to redress their weaknesses.

2. CLASS EXPECTATIONS:

1) Attend class on time.
2) Be ready and willing to learn.
3) Be respectful to the friends and the teacher.
4) Keep the class clean and tidy.
5) Bring the course materials (books, notebooks, glue, crayons…).

4. SINIFLAR MAIN COURSE DERSİ TANITIMI

1- DERSİN AMAÇLARI

Bu dersin amacı, öğrencilerin konuşma, yazma, okuma ve dinleme becerilerini İngilizce diyaloglar, şarkılar, canlandırma ve kelime oyunları gibi aktivitelerle geliştirmelerini ve İngilizceyi akıcı bir şekilde kullanmalarını sağlamaktır. Öğrenciler edindikleri bilgileri grafik hazırlama, proje yapma, karşılıklı diyalog gibi faaliyetlerle yaşama geçirecekler; yazılı ve sözlü olarak kendilerini ifade edeceklerdir.

Bu çalışma kapsamında yer alan BAĞIMSIZ ÖĞRENME REHBERİ, öğrencilerin nasıl öğrendikleri ve neden öğrendikleri konusunda bilinçlenmelerini sağlayacak ve öğrencilerin zamanlarını ve çalışmalarını en iyi şekilde planlamalarına yardımcı olacaktır.

 The goal of this course is to give the students the tools and training they need to learn, remember and use the new language with the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) through dialogues, cross-curricular items, songs, role plays, vocabulary games, etc. Students will use their new knowledge inferring meaning from the context throughout charts, graphs, role plays, projects, cut-and-paste activities and vocabulary exercises.
From this year on, the students will use a LANGUAGE PORTFOLIO to develop their foreign language and independent study skills. As part of this scheme, each student will have an INDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE. The guide is designed to help students think about how they learn, why they are learning, how to use their time and to encourage independence. Students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of strengths and weaknesses.

• COURSE DESCRIPTION

The main aims of this course are to develop the four skills and to increase the students’ active vocabulary. It is also designed to give the cultural background of the language, through graded readers. Students will practice the language they learn while they read different kinds of stories. By acting out the stories, students improve their fluency in English and they gain self-confidence in terms of using the new language.
From this year on, the students will use a LANGUAGE PORTFOLIO to develop their foreign language and independent study skills. As part of this scheme, each student will have an INDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE. The guide is designed to help students think about how they learn, why they are learning, how to use their time and to encourage independence. Students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of strengths and weaknesses. Keeping a FOLDER OF WORK and completing SELF-ASSESSMENT FORMS will also help students to take steps towards full independence. In addition to this, at the end of each term individual students will get the necessary guidance from their main course teacher. The guidance will be given on the basis of the self-assessment forms.

As part of this scheme, each student will have an INDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE. The guide is designed to help students think about how they learn, why they are learning, how to use their time and to encourage independence. Students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of strengths and weaknesses.

• CLASS EXPECTATIONS

• Be on time,
• Bring notebooks, books and worksheets (in a folder) as appropriate,
• Do their homework by the due date,
• Keep the classroom clean and tidy,
• Behave respectfully towards their classmates and the teacher,

There will be two written exams and one performance homework mark each term. A minimum of two oral marks will be awarded each term.

6. SINIFLAR MAIN COURSE DERS TANITIMI

• DERSİN AMACI

Bu dersin amacı, yeni öğrenilen dili öğrencilere önce sunmak daha sonra da pekiştirmektir. Ders kitaplarımız ‘Energy 3- 4 ’, 6. sınıf öğrencilerinin yaş grubuna uygun, onların motivasyonunu arttıran ve dersleri hem öğretmen hem de öğrenci için mümkün olduğunca zevkli hale getirecek şekilde oluşturulmuştur. ‘Energy 3-4 ’ kitaplarımız öğrencilerin var olan İngilizce bilgilerini kullandırdığı gibi, yeni gramer ve kelimelerle İngilizce becerilerini geliştirmektedir. Bu sayede öğrencilerin hedeflerini belirlemeleri ve bağımsız birer öğrenici olarak sorumluluk almaları kolaylaştırılmış olacaktır.Hazırladıkları projeleri, kendilerine verilen çalışma kağıtlarını ve yaptıkları yazı çalışmalarını ÜRÜN DOSYASI’nda biriktirerek daha düzenli olmaları hedeflenmektedir.
         Her ünite sonunda öğrenciler  GELİŞİM DEĞERLENDİRMESİ adı altında hazırlanan formları dolduracaktır.Bu sayede öğrenciler öğrendikleri konuyla ilgili motivasyonlarını arttıracak, daha etkin çalışmayı öğrenecek ve bu konuya ait eksikliklerinin farkına varacaktır. Öğrenciler eğitim öğretim yılı sonunda  KENDİNİ DEĞERLENDİRME FORMU’ nu doldurarak, yıl boyunca gösterdiği dil gelişimini fark edeceklerdir.

6TH GRADE MAIN COURSE

      1- COURSE DESCRIPTION

        This year the grade 6 Main Course curriculum will be 8 hours a week, one hour of which will be a speaking lesson. The goal of the course is to present and practice new language in a meaningful context. The texts in our course books ‘Energy 2 & 3’ are specially designed to appeal to young students, increasing motivation and making lessons enjoyable for both teacher and students. Our aim is to consolidate and extend students’ existing knowledge of English, including all the basic tenses through to the new areas of grammar and vocabulary which are appropriate for pre- intermediate and intermediate levels. The reading, writing, speaking, listening and pronunciation exercises help students to develop the skills they need to communicate in English.
        This year we have incorporated a notebook into the INDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE to enable the students to use it more efficiently and effectively. This way, the students can set their goals and take responsibility for becoming independent learners more easily. In their WORK FOLDER they will keep all their projects, worksheets, written work…etc in order to be well organized.
        Students will complete the form THE EVALUATION OF MY PROGRESS at the end of each unit. By completing these forms, the students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, students will fill out a SELF ASSESSMENT EVALUATION FORM at the end of the year which will show how much they have progressed throughout the academic year.

6. SINIFLAR İNGİLİZCE BECERİ DERSİNİN TANITIMI

1. Dersin Amaçları

Dersimizin amacı dört beceriyi kapsayan, iyi dengelenmiş aktiviteler sunmak ve aktif kelime hazinesini geliştirmektir.
Dersimiz öğrencilerimizin kitaplarındaki kültürel ve etik temaları incelemelerini amaçlayarak şekillendirilmiştir. Öğrencilerimiz konuşma aktiviteleri aracılığıyla bağımsız düşünme ve fikir şekillendirme için yönlendirileceklerdir. Bunun yanısıra kendilerini daha özgür ve yaratıcı bir biçimde ifade edebilecekleri kişisel eserler de ortaya çıkarma şansları olacaktır. Bütün olarak, dersimizin amacı öğrencilerimizin kendi kendilerine becerilerini kullanmaya devam edebilmeleri için akıcılığı geliştirmek ve İngilizcenin kullanımına hakim ve daha kendine güvenir hale gelmelerini sağlamaktır.
Öğrencilerimizi yönlendirmek adına sistemimizin ihtiyaçlarına adapte edilmiş DİL PORTFOLYOSU hazırlanmıştır.. Bu çalışmada; öğrencilerin kendi eksikliklerini ve öğrenmelerindeki gelişimi gözlemlemeleri ve BAĞIMSIZ ÖĞRENME konusunda cesaretlendirilmeleri amaçlanmaktadır. Bu dil portfolyosu çalışmasına bağlı olarak tutulacak olan ÇALIŞMA DOSYASI ve KENDİNİ DEĞERLENDİRME FORMLARI’nda da öğrencilerin motive olması amaçlanmaktadır.

1. Course Description

The aim of the course is to use well-balanced activities that integrate the 4 skills and increase active vocabulary.  It is designed to explore cultural and moral issues that students can relate to themes in the readers.  Students will be encouraged to think independently and form opinions through speaking and writing.  They will also have the chance to produce personalised work in which they can express themselves more freely and creatively.  Ultimately, the course aims to improve fluency so that students can continue to use the skills on their own and become more proficient and confident in the use of English.

In our efforts to guide and give direction to our students, language portfolios specifically designed for our school are being used.  As part of this scheme, each student will have anINDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE.  The guide is designed to help students think about how they learn, why they are learning and to encourage independence.  Students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of strengths and weaknesses.  Keeping a WORK FOLDER and completing SELF – ASSESSMENT forms will also help students to take steps towards full independence.

2. Class Expectations

1. Be willing to tackle tasks and challenges and invest a high level of effort in learning.
2. Have a need to achieve, to overcome difficulties and not be discouraged by temporary setbacks or lack of progress.
3. Participate and be attentive in the lessons at all times so that learning can take place

1-DERSİN AMACI
Bu dersin amacı, yeni öğrenilen dili öğrencilere önce sunmak daha sonra da pekiştirmektir. The goal of the course is to present and practice new language in a meaningful context. The texts in our course book ‘Energy 4’ are specially designed to appeal to young students, increasing motivation and making lessons enjoyable for both teacher and students. Our aim is to consolidate and extend students’ existing knowledge of English, including all the basic tenses through to the new areas of grammar and vocabulary which are appropriate for intermediate and upper-intermediate levels. The reading, writing, speaking, listening and pronunciation exercises help students to develop the skills they need to communicate in English.
        This year we have incorporated a notebook into the INDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE to enable the students to use it more efficiently and effectively. This way, the students can set their goals and take responsibility for becoming independent learners more easily. In their WORK FOLDER they will keep all their projects, worksheets, written work…etc in order to be well organized.
        Students will complete the form THE EVALUATION OF MY PROGRESS at the end of each unit. By completing these forms, the students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, students will fill out a ‘SELF ASSESSMENT EVALUATION FORM’ at the end of the year which will show how much they have progressed throughout the academic year.

      11- If you have missed a lesson it is your responsibility to find out what was done and or given on the 
                    day of  absence.

8. SINIFLAR İNGİLİZCE BECERİ DERSİNİN TANITIMI

1-Dersin Amaçları

Dersimizin amacı dört beceriyi kapsayan, iyi dengelenmiş aktiviteler sunmak ve aktif kelime hazinesini geliştirmektir.
Dersimiz öğrencilerimizin kitaplarındaki kültürel ve etik temaları incelemelerini amaçlayarak şekillendirilmiştir. Öğrencilerimiz konuşma aktiviteleri aracılığıyla bağımsız düşünme ve fikir şekillendirme için yönlendirileceklerdir. Bunun yanısıra kendilerini daha özgür ve yaratıcı bir biçimde ifade edebilecekleri kişisel eserler de ortaya çıkarma şansları olacaktır. Bütün olarak, dersimizin amacı öğrencilerimizin kendi kendilerine becerilerini kullanmaya devam edebilmeleri için akıcılığı geliştirmek ve İngilizcenin kullanımına hakim ve daha kendine güvenir hale gelmelerini sağlamaktır.
Öğrencilerimizi yönlendirmek adına sistemimizin ihtiyaçlarına adapte edilmiş DİL PORTFOLYOSU hazırlanmıştır.. Bu çalışmada; öğrencilerin kendi eksikliklerini ve öğrenmelerindeki gelişimi gözlemlemeleri ve BAĞIMSIZ ÖĞRENME konusunda cesaretlendirilmeleri amaçlanmaktadır. Bu dil portfolyosu çalışmasına bağlı olarak tutulacak olan ÇALIŞMA DOSYASI ve KENDİNİ DEĞERLENDİRME FORMLARI’nda da öğrencilerin motive olması amaçlanmaktadır.

                                       8TH GRADE SKILLS COURSE

        1-COURSE DESCRIPTION

The aim of the course is to use well-balanced activities that integrate the 4 skills and increase active vocabulary.  It is designed to explore cultural and moral issues that students can relate to themes in the readers.  Students will be encouraged to think independently and form opinions through speaking and writing.  They will also have the chance to produce personalised work in which they can express themselves more freely and creatively.  Ultimately, the course aims to improve fluency so that students can continue to use the skills on their own and become more proficient and confident in the use of English.

In our efforts to guide and give direction to our students, language portfolios specifically designed for our school are being used.  As part of this scheme, each student will have an INDEPENDENT LEARNER GUIDE.  The guide is designed to help students think about how they learn, why they are learning and to encourage independence.  Students will increase their motivation and work more effectively through greater awareness of strengths and weaknesses.  Keeping a WORK FOLDER and completing SELF-ASSESSMENT FORMS will also help students to take steps towards full independence.
